Her work focuses on HIV and emergence of pathogens at human-animal interface. Her group made&nbsp;a major&nbsp;contribution to decipher the origin and history of the AIDS epidemic. Her&nbsp;laboratory is also accredited by WHO for surveillance of drug resistance to&nbsp;antiretrovirals in resource limited countries. She has numerous collaborations&nbsp;with scientists and institutions in West and Central Africa. Her work has&nbsp;always combined fundamental and operational research and accompanies, via&nbsp;research projects, training of students from Sub-Saharan Africa as well as&nbsp;capacity building of local laboratory facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Peeters holds a PhD from the&nbsp;University of Antwerp, Belgium and was also Research Associate at the Institute of&nbsp;Tropical Medicine in Antwerp.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Martine Peeters is Research&nbsp;Director at the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) in the research group&nbsp;working on Translational Research&nbsp;on HIV and Infectious Diseases (TransVIHMI).
