MAK’IT at the “Science Bar” on May 20, 2021
MAK’IT is partnering with the 2021 program of the “Bar des sciences”—a premier venue for public debate and a must-attend science-society event—for a session titled “Does Science Have Its Own ‘Fake News’?” The session will take place virtually on Thursday, May 20, 2021, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and will feature three researchers from the 2020–2021 MAK’IT cohort:
- Christophe Béné, researcher in political analysis at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) (Colombia)
- Thaura Ghneim-Herrera, professor of Plant Biology at ICESI University in Cali, Colombia
- Mahama Tawat, researcher in Comparative Politics at the Institute for Research, Socioeconomic Development, and Communication (IRESCO) (Cameroon)
They will engage in discussions with the public on the topics they are exploring during their time at MAK’IT, including COVID-19 vaccination campaigns, new genome-editing techniques in the agri-food sector, and the impact of scientific controversies on societal changes—particularly those related to the implementation of more sustainable food systems.
