MAK’IT Talks ‘Addressing controversies over global challenges: from multi-stakeholder dialogue to transformative solutions’

Thursday 26 January 2023, 9:30 – 12:30

Contemporary global issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss and resource depletion pose formidable societal challenges that require structural changes involving interactions between science, technology, politics, economics, markets, culture and public opinion. These changes entail complex processes engaging multiple stakeholders with diverse narratives, competing interests and alternative future visions and, in most cases, generate animated controversies.
How to identify and deal with these controversies and the conflicts that arise around them? How to address their multidimensional nature? What frameworks and approaches can help us generate greater collective understanding and commitment?
In this MAK’IT talk, two leading experts will discuss controversies surrounding current global issues and socio-technical transitions. They will introduce us to different approaches and methodologies that help to address those controversies constructively, foster multi-stakeholder dialogue and advance the necessary changes.

About the ‘MAK’IT Talks’:

The Montpellier Advanced Knowledge Institute on Transitions (MAK’IT) opens this year, on a monthly basis, one of its seminars, otherwise reserved exclusively for its resident fellows, to Montpellier’s scientific and student community.
Entirely in English, these ‘MAK’IT Talks’ are intended to serve as a space for productive dialogue between international and local experts and aim to strengthen links and synergies around transversal topics, at the science-society interface.
We encourage you to take full advantage of this new exchange platform and we look forward to seeing you at these monthly meetings!
