Julianne Meisner

Julianne Meisner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Health and the Department of Epidemiology, in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington (Seattle, USA). She received her MS and PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Washington, and her BVM&S from the University of Edinburgh (Edinburgh, UK).
A veterinarian and epidemiologist by training, her research uses a combination of qualitative, quantitative, and participatory approaches to study effect of macrosocial forces-–land dispossession, violent conflict, climate change, institutional distrust, etc.–-on the transmission of diseases between humans, animals, and insect vectors, using a One Health lens.
She is the PI of grants in the Middle East and Central Asia awarded by the US National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health, which leverage multidisciplinary teams and novel methods development to test complex, multispecies hypotheses.
Dr. Meisner is the Associate Director of the University of Washington’s Center for One Health Research, and holds the Blazes Health Ecology Endowed Faculty Fellowship. Her MAK’IT fellowship will study the economic, social, and ecological transitions that influence contact between humans, wildlife, livestock, and disease vectors in West Africa, Madagascar, and Southeast Asia.
