Fellowship dates: 19/03/2026 – 27/03/2026

Henrik Thorén is a researcher in the Department of Philosophy at Lund University, Sweden. He is a philosopher of science whose work focuses on the climate, sustainability, and environmental sciences, as well as on the role these sciences — and science in general — can and should play in democratic societies.

He has written on the methodology of interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity, often focusing on (inter)emerging disciplines such as sustainability science, the functions of various “bridging concepts” in these fields — such as resilience, ecosystem services, and values — as well as on the management of uncertainty and “domestication” in model-based science for policy.

He is currently leading a project on normative assumptions in climate economics and is also involved in several other research projects on topics such as the integration of local knowledge into scientific biodiversity assessments, the concept of resilience, and the use of modeling to support planning and decision-making during the COVID-19 pandemic.
