Philippe Mayaud
Philippe Mayaud is a clinical epidemiologist and triallist trained in France and the UK in the field of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STI). He has conducted many research projects in Brazil, Africa and China with a focus on intervention research in key high-risk groups and people living with HIV, and a special interest in viral STIs such as herpes (HSV-2), human papillomavirus (HPV), but also bacterial STIs such as gonorrhoea and syphilis. In Brazil, his research has focused on Kaposi’s sarcoma and more recently on arboviruses such as Zika virus.
In addition to his position at the LSHTM, Dr. Mayaud is a visiting professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil and an honorary professor at the School of Medicine of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
