The Role of ICTs in Times of crisis
MAK’IT and the South Centre are supporting the research of Ruthbetha Kateule (the University of Dar en Salam, Tanzania) on the role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in times of crisis.
MAK’IT and the South Centre are strengthening their relationship with a young researcher, Ruthbetha Kateule, from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, by supporting her research on the role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in times of crisis. As part of the 2023 edition of the MAK’IT COHORT flagship programme, Dr Kateule, a computer scientist, will examine the promises, constraints and concerns surrounding the use of ICTs in agriculture and health in times of crisis. Her work will focus on issues of equitable access to data and technology, including the dimensions of intellectual property, with an emphasis on analysing their impact on countries in the developing world. MAK’IT is delighted to partner with the South Centre, an organisation committed to promoting the interests and common positions of developing countries in global policy debates. Through this partnership, we look forward to the positive impact that Dr Kateule’s research will have on the development of effective crisis management strategies, particularly in the South.
