Gabriel López Porras

Gabriel López Porras is Professor of Environmental Law at the Autonomous University of Chihuahua (Mexico). His fellowship at the Montpellier Advanced Knowledge Institute on Transitions runs from 8 January 2024 to 30 June 2024.

Biography:

Gabriel López Porras is Professor of Environmental Law at the Faculty of Zootechnics and Ecology of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, focusing on redirecting unsustainable paths towards a harmonious coexistence between humans and Nature. He is also an environmental lawyer and social scientist with experience in environmental litigation, policy design and analysis, consultancy, environmental activism, and scientific research.

He graduated as a lawyer from the Autonomous University of Chihuahua (Mexico) and obtained an MA in Environmental Law and Public Policy from the University of Environment (Mexico). During this time, he worked as an environmental attorney for the government, a lawyer at an environmental law NGO, and an independent environmental consultant.

Afterwards, his academic career started with a PhD at the Sustainability Research Institute of the University of Leeds (UK) and a postdoc in Earth System Law at the University of Lincoln (UK). He is an Independent Expert for the United Nations Programme ‘Harmony with Nature’. As a law practitioner, consultant, and researcher, Gabriel actively collaborates with governments, NGOs, and academics to protect the Earth and avoid undesirable ecological scenarios.
