Ibrahima Thioub
Ibrahima Thioub is Rector of the Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) of Dakar, Senegal, since 2014.Professor at the same university since 1990, he is a specialist of modern and contemporary African history, with a specific focus on slavery.
Dr. Thioub has held visiting posts at numerous universities around the world (USA, Europe, Africa and Asia). He was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and at the Institut d’Etudes Avancées de Nantes, where he participated also in its Scientific Council. He is Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Nantes and of Sciences Po Paris.
Member of several scientific journals and of several academic institutions including the Association of African Historians (AHA), he leads the Study and Research Group on Exclusion and Marginality in Senegal (GERMES), the African Research Center on Slave Trade and Slavery (CARTE) and the Research Center on Social Policies (CREPOS).
Dr. Thioub speaks Wolof, French and English fluently.
