Martine Peeters

Martine Peeters is Research Director at the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) in the research group working on Translational Research on HIV and Infectious Diseases (TransVIHMI). Her work focuses on HIV and emergence of pathogens at human-animal interface. Her group made a major contribution to decipher the origin and history of the AIDS epidemic. Her laboratory is also accredited by WHO for surveillance of drug resistance to antiretrovirals in resource limited countries. She has numerous collaborations with scientists and institutions in West and Central Africa. Her work has always combined fundamental and operational research and accompanies, via research projects, training of students from Sub-Saharan Africa as well as capacity building of local laboratory facilities.

Dr. Peeters holds a PhD from the University of Antwerp, Belgium and was also Research Associate at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp.
